Four Early Regions In Nigeria

Nigeria was once divided into four main regions. Thes include:

1. Northern Region
2. Western Region
3. Eastern Region
4. Mid-Western Region

Understanding these regions is vital because they played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s history and its diverse cultural landscape. Each region had its own unique characteristics and traditions.

Northern and Western Regions

Before Nigeria adopted the present state structure, the country was organised into regions. The Northern Region covered a large part of northern Nigeria and had Kaduna as its administrative capital. The Western Region covered much of the west and had Ibadan as its capital.

The regions had governments and were associated with different peoples, occupations and resources. The four-region structure later comprised Northern, Western, Eastern and Mid-Western Regions.
