Uses of Land; Farming and Building Construction

Land is very useful for many things in our lives. Below are two crucial uses of land:

Farming: Land is used to grow crops like maize, yams, and vegetables. It provides space for animals like cows and chickens. Other examples include rice, beans, goats, and ducks.
Building Construction: Land is where houses, schools, and hospitals are built to give us shelter and a place to learn or get care. examples include shops, churches, and mosques.

Land Used for Farming

Farmers use land to grow crops such as maize, vegetables and cassava and to keep suitable farm animals. Good farming land must be cared for by avoiding indiscriminate dumping and unnecessary burning.

Land Used for Building

Land is also used for houses, schools, hospitals, markets and roads. Before construction, adults plan the site and make sure it is suitable and legally available. Building on waterways or blocking drainage can create danger.

Pupils sort picture cards into “farming” and “building” uses, then explain one benefit of each use.
