Erosion is the process by which soil is carried away by wind, water, or human activities. This often results in the loss of the topsoil, which is rich in nutrients.
- Causes of Erosion
Erosion occurs due to various factors that lead to the displacement of soil particles.
The following are the causes of erosion:
- Water Erosion: Rainwater washes away soil on bare land.
- Wind Erosion: Strong winds blow away loose soil.
- Human Activities: Deforestation, overgrazing, and poor farming practices can lead to erosion.
- Topography: Steep slopes are more prone to erosion due to increased runoff velocity.
- Climate: Areas with intense rainfall or prolonged droughts experience higher rates of erosion.
- Effects of Erosion
Erosion has several negative impacts on the environment and agriculture.
