Attributes of Allah (SWT) (41-50)

41. الْحَفِيظُ (Al-Hafiz) – The Preserver

Meaning: Allah is the One who preserves all things in the universe, protecting them from decay and loss. He remembers and records all actions.

Lesson: This attribute teaches us to trust in Allah’s protection and to be mindful that all our deeds are recorded. It encourages us to preserve what is good and beneficial.

Example/Application: When we pray for safety, we invoke Al-Hafiz. We also learn to take care of our environment and belongings, knowing Allah preserves everything.

42. الْمُقِيتُ (Al-Muqit) – The Maintainer/The Giver of Sustenance

Meaning: Allah is the One who provides sustenance and maintains all creatures. He gives strength and nourishment to all.

Lesson: This attribute reminds us that Allah is the ultimate provider of all our needs. It encourages gratitude and reliance on Him for sustenance.

Example/Application: We see Al-Muqit in the provision of food, water, and all necessities for life. It teaches us to be grateful for our daily bread.

43. الْحَسِيبُ (Al-Hasib) – The Reckoner/The Accounter

Meaning: Allah is the One who takes account of all actions, both good and bad. He is sufficient as a reckoner and judge.

Lesson: This attribute instills a sense of accountability for our actions, knowing that Allah is watching and will account for everything. It promotes righteousness and good conduct.

Example/Application: The fear of Allah’s reckoning makes a Muslim strive to do good deeds and avoid sins, knowing that on the Day of Judgment, Allah will be the ultimate Hasib.

44. الْجَلِيلُ (Al-Jalil) – The Majestic/The Glorious

Meaning: Allah is the One who possesses supreme greatness, glory, and majesty. His attributes are magnificent and awe-inspiring.

Lesson: This attribute inspires awe and reverence for Allah (SWT). It reminds us of His exalted status and our humility before Him.

Example/Application: We observe Al-Jalil in the grandeur of the universe, the mountains, the oceans, and the stars. Reflecting on these creations increases our sense of Allah’s majesty.

45. الْكَرِيمُ (Al-Karim) – The Generous/The Benevolent

Meaning: Allah is the One who is exceedingly generous, giving abundantly without measure or expectation of return. He honors and forgives.

Lesson: This attribute encourages us to be generous, kind, and forgiving towards others, reflecting Allah’s own generosity. It also teaches us to seek His immense bounty.

Example/Application: Allah’s abundant blessings, even to those who disobey Him, show His Karim nature. Muslims are encouraged to be charitable and kind to others.

46. الرَّقِيبُ (Ar-Raqib) – The Watchful/The Observer

Meaning: Allah is the One who observes all things, knowing every thought and action of His creation. Nothing escapes His watchfulness.

Lesson: This attribute fosters a constant awareness of Allah’s presence, leading to self-control and piety (Taqwa). It helps us avoid wrongdoing even when alone.

Example/Application: A Muslim who understands Ar-Raqib will always strive to do good and avoid evil, knowing that Allah is constantly watching. This promotes honesty and integrity.

47. الْمُجِيبُ (Al-Mujib) – The Responsive/The Answerer of Prayers

Meaning: Allah is the One who responds to the prayers and supplications of His servants. He answers their calls when they invoke Him.

Lesson: This attribute encourages us to pray and make supplications to Allah with full conviction and hope, knowing that He hears and responds.

Example/Application: When we face difficulties, we turn to Allah in prayer, confident that Al-Mujib will answer our pleas in the best way for us. This strengthens our reliance on Him.

48. الْوَاسِعُ (Al-Wasi’) – The All-Embracing/The All-Encompassing

Meaning: Allah is the One whose knowledge, mercy, power, and generosity encompass all things. There are no limits to His vastness.

Lesson: This attribute teaches us that Allah’s mercy and wisdom are boundless. It encourages us to seek His vast blessings and forgiveness, knowing His capacity is infinite.

Example/Application: The vastness of the universe and the countless blessings we receive are manifestations of Al-Wasi’. It reminds us that Allah’s generosity knows no bounds.

49. الْحَكِيمُ (Al-Hakim) – The Wise/The All-Wise

Meaning: Allah is the One who possesses perfect wisdom in all His commands, creations, and dispensations. Everything He does is for a wise purpose.

Lesson: This attribute helps us trust in Allah’s decrees, even when we don’t understand them, knowing that His wisdom is perfect. It encourages seeking knowledge and understanding.

Example/Application: The intricate design of the human body and the natural world shows Allah’s perfect wisdom. When calamities occur, a Muslim trusts that Al-Hakim has a wise plan.

50. الْوَدُودُ (Al-Wadud) – The Loving/The Most Affectionate

Meaning: Allah is the One who loves His righteous servants and is loved by them. He is the source of all love and affection.

Lesson: This attribute inspires us to love Allah above all else and to strive for His love by obeying His commands. It also encourages us to show love and compassion to others.

Example/Application: Allah’s love for His creation is evident in His countless blessings. A Muslim shows love to Allah by following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and by caring for fellow beings.
