Teacher Guide for Using This Lesson Plan

Before the lesson, ensure you have an appropriate Igbo reading book for Primary 1 pupils to use for demonstrations. Begin by engaging pupils with a brief review and a clear introduction to the lesson’s topic. Guide pupils through practical demonstrations of where to start reading on a page (left to right, top to bottom) and how to hold a book correctly while reading, using their fingers to follow the words. Emphasize the importance of reading clearly and understanding what they read. Proceed to explain and demonstrate various ways to care for reading books, encouraging pupils to practice these habits. Pay close attention to individual pupils during guided practice, offering support to those who struggle and challenging faster learners with additional reading or book care examples. Pupils should copy the Board Summary notes into their notebooks after the evaluation stage. Conclude the lesson by reinforcing the key learning points and encouraging consistent practice of reading and book care at home.
