Production Of Batik

The process of making batik involves careful steps to apply wax and dye. They are:

  1. Draw a design on the cloth using a pencil
  2. Apply hot wax on the design using a brush or stamp
  3. Leave the wax to dry
  4. Dip the cloth in dye solution
  5. Remove the cloth and let it dry
  6. Boil the cloth in water to remove wax
  7. Rinse and dry the final batik cloth

Uses of Batik

Batik cloth is used in different ways in our daily life. Examples are:

  1. Making clothes
  2. Decorating homes
  3. Designing bags and shoes
  4. Creating table covers
  5. Making art pieces

Batik Production Sequence

Prepare and dry the fabric, plan the motif, apply resist to intended areas, allow it to set, dye the fabric, rinse or dry as the dye method directs, remove resist safely, and finish the fabric. Multi-colour work repeats resist and dye from lighter to darker colours.

Wear protection, ventilate the area and let adults manage hot wax. Dispose of dye and wax according to instructions rather than pouring them carelessly into drains.
