Scissors are a simple machine we use daily. They are a type of lever that helps us cut things.

What is a Scissors?

A pair of scissors is a cutting tool with two blades joined at a pivot in the middle.

Uses of Scissors:

Scissors have many uses. These include:

Cutting paper for art or shapes.
Cutting fabric for sewing.
Opening packages.
Cutting materials like cardboard,foam,felt,or plastic for decorations.
Trimming hair or threads.
cutting food items in the kitchen.

Parts and Uses of Scissors

Scissors are a simple cutting tool with two blades joined at a pivot and handles for the fingers. At school, suitable blunt-ended scissors can cut paper, thread or light card during craft activities.

Carry scissors with the closed blades pointing downward. Pass them handle-first, cut away from the body, remain seated while cutting, and use them only with the teacher’s permission. Scissors are not toys.

Guided Practice

The teacher demonstrates the safe grip. Pupils then cut along a thick straight line on paper while the teacher supervises.
