What is Rape?

Rape is forceful sexual engagement without consent.

Prevention of Rape

Body Safety and Consent

Every child has a right to bodily safety. Sexual abuse is any sexual act or touching forced on a person or imposed without consent. A child is never responsible for an adult’s or older person’s abusive behaviour, even if the person uses gifts, threats, secrecy or authority.

Getting Help

Pupils should know the correct names of body parts, understand that private parts are private, say “No” firmly when possible, leave an unsafe situation and tell a trusted adult. If the first adult does not help, the child should tell another trusted adult until someone acts. In immediate danger, call for help or contact emergency services through an adult. Avoiding isolated places can improve safety, but prevention is always the responsibility of adults and the offender—not the child.
