Definition of Cooling System

Components of a Liquid Cooling System

Water Circulation in the Cooling System

The circulation of coolant in a liquid cooling system follows a specific path:

  • The water pump pushes cold coolant from the radiator into the engine’s coolant passages (water jackets).
  • As the coolant flows through the engine, it absorbs heat from the hot engine components.
  • The hot coolant then exits the engine and flows through the upper hose to the radiator.
  • Inside the radiator, the hot coolant passes through thin tubes, where heat is transferred to the cooler air flowing over the radiator fins.
  • The cooled coolant then flows out of the radiator, through the lower hose, and back to the water pump to repeat the cycle.
  • The thermostat controls this flow, blocking it from the radiator until the engine reaches its operating temperature, ensuring quick warm-up.
