Prerequisite/Previous Knowledge

Pupils have prior knowledge of God as the Creator of heaven and earth from their previous lessons.

Lesson Content/Board Summary

God the Controller of the Universe

Meaning of God as Controller of the Universe

God as the Controller of the universe means that He actively sustains, governs, and directs all things in creation. He is not a distant creator but an ever-present ruler who ensures the order, balance, and continuation of life and existence.

God’s Control of the Universe

God demonstrates His control over the universe through His authority over creation and natural phenomena.

  • Bible Reading: Genesis 1:26-31

This passage highlights God’s ultimate authority over all creation and His delegation of dominion to humanity, who are to manage the earth under His sovereign watch. God created everything and declared it good, establishing the natural order.

  • Bible Reading: Amos 9:1-6

Amos 9:1-6 illustrates God’s absolute power over nature and events. He can command the elements, bring about judgment, and His presence shakes the earth. This shows that no part of the universe is beyond His reach or control. Examples of God’s power over nature include controlling weather patterns (rain, sunshine), seasons, life cycles of plants and animals, and geological events like earthquakes and floods.

God Controls the Affairs of Nations

God’s control extends beyond nature to the destinies and affairs of human nations.

  • Bible Reading: Jeremiah 18:1-6

The illustration of the potter and the clay in Jeremiah 18:1-6 shows God’s sovereignty over nations. Just as a potter can reshape clay, God has the power to build up or tear down nations according to His will and their response to His commands. He raises leaders, determines boundaries, and can change the course of history for any nation. This demonstrates that human governments and powers are ultimately subject to His divine authority.

Memory Verse

Genesis 1:26: “Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.'”
