Lesson Content/Board Summary

Consequences of Obedience

Meaning of Obedience

Obedience, in the Christian context, means willingly doing what God commands and following His laws as revealed in the Bible. It involves submitting to God’s will and authority.

Why Obedience Brings Blessings

Obedience to God leads to blessings because God is faithful to His promises. When we obey Him, we align ourselves with His divine plan, which often includes peace, protection, prosperity, and spiritual growth. Disobedience, on the other hand, can lead to negative consequences.

Memory Verse

Deuteronomy 28:1 – “If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.”

Bible Reading

  • Genesis 39:7-12
  • Exodus 20:3, 13
  • Psalms 26:1-12
  • Daniel 3:1-30
  • Esther 4:1-16

Biblical Examples of Obedience and their Rewards

  • Joseph Rewarded for Obeying God’s Law (Genesis 39:7-12)

Joseph refused to commit adultery with Potiphar’s wife, choosing to obey God’s law against sexual immorality. He faced imprisonment but was eventually exalted to a position of great power in Egypt, becoming second only to Pharaoh, and was able to save his family and many others from famine.

  • David Rewarded for Respecting a Civil Rule (Exodus 20:13, Psalms 26:1-12)

David, despite having the opportunity to kill King Saul who was pursuing him, chose not to harm God’s anointed. He respected the sanctity of human life and God’s authority. David was eventually established as king of Israel and became a revered figure in biblical history.

  • Three Hebrew Youths Escaped Death for Obeying God to Avoid Idolatry (Exodus 20:3, Daniel 3:1-30)

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow down to King Nebuchadnezzar’s golden image, choosing to obey God’s command against idolatry. They were thrown into a fiery furnace but were miraculously saved by God, emerging unharmed. This led the king to acknowledge God’s power and promote them.

  • Esther Obeyed Mordecai (Esther 4:1-16)

Queen Esther obeyed her cousin Mordecai’s instruction to reveal her Jewish identity to King Ahasuerus and plead for her people, despite the risk to her own life. Her obedience led to the salvation of the Jewish people from Haman’s plot and the execution of Haman.
