Lesson Content/Board Summary

Faith and Power of God

The story of Daniel in the lion’s den is a powerful account demonstrating God’s supreme power and faithfulness to those who serve Him with integrity and unwavering faith.

Meaning of God’s Power

God’s power refers to His infinite ability to do all things, including saving, protecting, and ruling over all creation. It means He is sovereign and nothing is impossible for Him.

The Decree to Worship the King (Daniel 6:1-9)

King Darius, influenced by jealous administrators, issued a decree that for thirty days, no one should pray to any god or man except the king. Anyone who violated this decree would be thrown into the lion’s den.

Daniel Expresses His Faith in God (Daniel 6:10-15)

Despite knowing the decree, Daniel continued his daily practice of praying three times a day, kneeling towards Jerusalem, giving thanks to God. This demonstrated his absolute faith and obedience to God above human laws.

Daniel in the Lion’s Den (Daniel 6:11-18)

Daniel’s enemies reported him to the king. Though grieved, King Darius was bound by the law and had Daniel thrown into the lion’s den. The king expressed hope that Daniel’s God would deliver him.

Power of God Manifested (Daniel 6:19-24)

In the morning, King Darius rushed to the den and found Daniel alive and unharmed. Daniel testified that God had sent His angel to shut the mouths of the lions. This was a clear manifestation of God’s power to save His faithful servant.

Effects of Daniel’s Faith (Daniel 6:25-28)

The effects of Daniel’s faith were significant:

  • King Darius issued a new decree commanding all people in his kingdom to fear and reverence Daniel’s God.
  • The king acknowledged God as the living God, eternal, and a rescuer.
  • Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius and Cyrus the Persian.
  • Daniel’s enemies who accused him were thrown into the lion’s den and immediately devoured by the lions.

Qualities of Daniel (Daniel 1:3-8, Daniel 6:3-5, Daniel 6:10, Daniel 6:16, Daniel 6:22-23)

Daniel exhibited several commendable qualities:

  • Integrity: He was found faithful and without corruption (Daniel 6:4).
  • Discipline: He maintained his prayer routine and dietary principles (Daniel 1:8, Daniel 6:10).
  • Prayerfulness: He prayed regularly and gave thanks to God (Daniel 6:10).
  • Wisdom: He had an excellent spirit and was knowledgeable (Daniel 6:3).
  • Courage: He defied the king’s decree to remain faithful to God.
  • Obedience to God: He prioritized God’s commands over human laws.

Memory Verse

Daniel 6:23: “Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.”
