Reasons for Preservation of farm Produce

Preserving farm produce keeps food fresh, healthy, and safe. It prevents food from spoiling quickly.Here’s why we preserve farm produce:

  1. Prolonging the Shelf Life of Produce:

Methods like drying, freezing, and canning extend food’s lifespan, allowing for longer storage and consumption.

  1. Prevention of Possible Contamination and Infection:

Preservation reduces the risk of harmful bacteria, fungi, and other organisms contaminating food, keeping it safe to eat.


Shelf Life and Spoilage Control

Shelf life is the period during which a product remains safe and acceptable under stated storage conditions. Drying, cooling, heat treatment and protective packaging may extend it by slowing the main causes of spoilage.

Shelf life is not unlimited and should not be guessed. Check odour, appearance, package condition and any verified date or storage instruction; reject mouldy, leaking or swollen products.
