WHOLE NUMBERS 1 – 500

1. Collecting, Sorting, and Classifying Objects

Collecting means gathering objects together. Sorting means putting objects into different groups based on a rule. Classifying means naming these groups.

Examples:

  • Collecting different fruits, then sorting them by color or type.
  • Collecting bottle tops, then classifying them by size (small, medium, large).

2. Identification of Numbers 1 – 500

Identification means being able to point out and name a number when you see it. We can identify numbers using flash cards or number charts.

Example: The teacher shows a flash card with ‘245’ and pupils say “Two hundred and forty-five”.


3. Reading of Numbers 1 – 500

Reading numbers means saying them aloud correctly. We read numbers from left to right.

Examples:

  • 120 – One hundred and twenty
  • 356 – Three hundred and fifty-six
  • 499 – Four hundred and ninety-nine

4. Writing of Numbers 1 – 500

Writing numbers means putting them down on paper using digits (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9).

Examples:

  • One hundred and fifty-three is written as 153.
  • Two hundred and seven is written as 207.

5. Ordering of Numbers 1 – 500

Ordering numbers means arranging them from smallest to largest (ascending order) or from largest to smallest (descending order).

Example 1: Arrange 120, 50, 210 in ascending order.

  • Step 1: Look at the numbers: 120, 50, 210.
  • Step 2: Find the smallest number: 50.
  • Step 3: Find the next smallest: 120.
  • Step 4: The largest is: 210.
  • Answer: 50, 120, 210.

Example 2: Arrange 400, 390, 410 in descending order.

  • Step 1: Look at the numbers: 400, 390, 410.
  • Step 2: Find the largest number: 410.
  • Step 3: Find the next largest: 400.
  • Step 4: The smallest is: 390.
  • Answer: 410, 400, 390.

6. Writing Numbers in Words: 1 – 100

We write numbers in words to show their names. It helps us read and understand numbers better.

Examples:

  • 1 – One
  • 2 – Two

  • 10 – Ten
