Data Collection

What is Data?

Data is information or facts we collect about people or things. We can collect data about many things, like ages, heights, or favorite colors.

Collecting Data about Ourselves

We can collect data about ourselves and our friends. Two types of data we can collect are:

Age: How old we are.
Height: How tall we are.

Grouping Data

After collecting data, we can put similar information together. This is called grouping. We can group ourselves in different ways:

Grouping by Age: All pupils who are 6 years old stand together, all who are 7 years old stand together.
Grouping by Height: All pupils who are tall stand together, all who are short stand together.

Step 3: Collecting Age Data

Step 6: Grouping by Height

Teacher’s Activity: The teacher instructs pupils to remain standing and then asks all pupils who are tall to stand on one side and all pupils who are shorter to stand on another side. (The teacher can use a marked line on the wall for reference).
