The judiciary is the arm of government responsible for interpreting laws and ensuring justice in the society.It ensures that everyone is treated fairly under the law.
Functions of the Judiciary
The judiciary is responsible for interpreting laws and ensuring justice. The following are the functions of the judiciary:
- Interprets the laws made by the legislature.
- Resolves disputes between individuals, groups, and the government.
- Protects the rights and freedoms of citizens.
- Punishes those who break the law.
- Ensures that government actions are lawful.
- Ensuring fair trials and hearings.
- Providing legal remedies and compensation.
Examples of the Judiciary in Nigeria
The judiciary is made up of various courts and tribunals. Examples are:
