Lesson Content/Board Summary

Second-Term Health Habits Revision

Keeping ourselves clean and healthy is very important. We revise some of the good habits we learned last term.

1. Washing Hands

We wash our hands to remove germs and dirt. This keeps us healthy and stops us from getting sick.

  • When to wash hands:
    • Before eating food.
    • After using the toilet.
    • After playing outside.
    • After coughing or sneezing.
  • How to wash hands:
    1. Wet your hands with clean water.
    2. Put soap on your hands.
    3. Rub your hands together to make bubbles (front, back, between fingers).
    4. Rinse your hands with clean water.
    5. Dry your hands with a clean towel.

2. Brushing Teeth

Brushing our teeth makes them strong and clean, and keeps our breath fresh. It helps to remove food bits and stop toothaches.

  • When to brush teeth:
    • In the morning when you wake up.
    • At night before you sleep.
  • How to brush teeth:
    1. Put a little toothpaste on your toothbrush.
    2. Brush the front, back, and top of your teeth gently.
    3. Rinse your mouth with water.

3. Keeping Our Surroundings Clean

A clean environment helps everyone stay healthy. We should always put rubbish in the dustbin.

  • Put waste papers in the bin.
  • Keep our classroom and home tidy.

Clean Hands Song

Tune: “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”

💡 Teacher Guide for Using This Board Summary

How to teach the content: Introduce the lesson by reminding pupils about healthy habits they learned last term. Use simple language. Explain each habit, focusing on “why” it’s important and “how” to do it. Use the prepared real objects (soap, water, toothbrush, toothpaste) for clear demonstrations.

What to show or demonstrate: Demonstrate the steps for handwashing using real soap and water. Show how to hold and use a toothbrush for brushing teeth. Use picture cards or chart posters to illustrate the steps visually and reinforce the concepts.

How to use the rhyme/song: Introduce the “Clean Hands Song” after discussing handwashing. Sing it together several times, encouraging pupils to perform the actions. The repetition helps reinforce the steps and makes learning fun.

How to use the video: Introduce the video as a fun way to learn about handwashing. Play the “Wash Your Hands Song for Kids” video. After watching, encourage pupils to sing along and mimic the actions shown in the video. Discuss what they saw and practised.

What to watch for: Observe pupils’ participation and their ability to imitate the actions correctly. Correct any misconceptions gently and encourage all pupils to try.

  • Clean – not dirty.
  • Healthy – strong and not sick.
  • Wash – to clean with water and soap.
  • Brush – to clean with a brush.
  • Tidy – neat and orderly.

Differentiation

Support: For pupils who struggle, the teacher can use larger picture cards, repeat instructions slowly, and provide hand-over-hand guidance during demonstrations. Focus on one habit at a time, such as just handwashing.

Extension: For pupils who grasp the concepts quickly, the teacher can ask them to name another time they should wash their hands or another item used for keeping clean (e.g., comb for hair). They can also lead the class in singing the rhyme or demonstrating an action.
