Meaning of Faith and Works

Faith, in the Christian context, is a confident trust or belief in God and His promises, even when they are not physically seen. It is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen.

1. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
2. Hebrews 11:3 further states, “By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” This highlights faith as understanding God’s creative power.

Faith as a Requirement for Salvation
