Lesson Content

The Four Early regions In Nigeria

Nigeria was initially divided into four regions: Northern, Western, Eastern, and Mid-Western.

Eastern Region

The Eastern Region, located in southeastern Nigeria, was known for its rich culture and abundant natural resources. Major ethnic groups included the Igbo, Ibibio, and Efik. The region was a meaningful producer of palm oil, rubber, and cocoa. Diverse ethnic groups contributed to its vibrant culture.

Mid-Western Region

Created in 1963 from the Western Region, the Mid-Western Region was situated in southwestern Nigeria. It was characterized by fertile agricultural land and a rich cultural heritage. Key ethnic groups included the Edo, Urhobo, and Isoko. The region produced rubber, palm oil, and timber.
