Definition of Isometric Drawing

Construction of Isometric Square
An isometric square is drawn by setting out two equal lengths at 30 degrees to the horizontal, from a common corner. The other two sides are then drawn parallel to the first two, forming a rhombus shape.
Construction of Isometric Rectangle
An isometric rectangle is constructed similarly to a square, but with two different lengths. Two adjacent sides are drawn at 30 degrees to the horizontal, representing the length and width. The remaining sides are drawn parallel to complete the shape.
Construction of Isometric Circle (Four-Centre Method)
An isometric circle appears as an ellipse in an isometric drawing. It is constructed within an isometric square (rhombus) using the four-centre method:
- Draw an isometric square with sides equal to the diameter of the circle.
- Locate the midpoints of all four sides of the isometric square.
- From the obtuse corners of the rhombus, draw lines to the midpoints of the opposite sides. These lines intersect to form two centres.
- From the acute corners, draw lines to the midpoints of the opposite sides. These lines intersect to form the other two centres.
- Using these four centres and appropriate radii, draw arcs to form the isometric circle.
