What are Plane Shapes?

Plane shapes are flat, two-dimensional shapes that have only length and width, but no depth. They can be drawn on a flat surface like a piece of paper or a board.


Properties of a Square

A square is a plane shape with four straight sides and four corners. All sides of a square are equal in length, and all its angles are right angles (90 degrees).

The following are properties of a square:

  • It has 4 equal sides.
  • It has 4 equal angles.
  • All its angles are 90 degrees (right angles).
  • Its opposite sides are parallel.
  • (Teacher to draw a square on the board and label its sides and angles.)

Properties of a Rectangle

A rectangle is a plane shape with four straight sides and four corners. Its opposite sides are equal in length, and all its angles are right angles (90 degrees).

The following are properties of a rectangle:

  • It has 4 sides.
  • Its opposite sides are equal in length.
  • It has 4 equal angles.
  • All its angles are 90 degrees (right angles).
  • Its opposite sides are parallel.

Properties of a Triangle

A triangle is a plane shape with three straight sides and three corners (vertices). The sum of the angles inside any triangle is always 180 degrees.

The following are properties of a triangle:

  • The sum of its angles is 180 degrees.
  • Its sides can be equal or different lengths.
