Social Environment
A social environment refers to the immediate physical and social setting in which people live, interact, and relate with one another. It includes family, friends, community, and groups people belong to.
The following are types of social environment:
- Primary Social Environment
- Secondary Social Environment
Primary Social Group (Family)
The family is the first and most important social group. It is where a child is born, nurtured, and taught the values of life. Families can take different forms depending on culture and society.
These include:
- Nuclear family – father, mother, and children.
- Extended family – father, mother, children, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, etc.
- Single-parent family – a parent (father or mother) living with children.
Roles and Responsibilities of Family Members
Every member of the family has duties that help maintain peace, unity, and progress in the home.
The following are the roles and responsibilities of family members:
- The father provides for the family and ensures security.
- The mother supports the family with care, guidance, and provision.
- Children respect and obey their parents.
- Children assist in household chores.
- All members show love, respect, and cooperation towards one another.
