Lesson Content/Board Summary

Short History of Maryam (Jesus’ Mother)

Background and Mystery of Maryam

Maryam, also known as Mary, was the mother of Prophet Isa (Jesus). She came from a noble and pious family. Her mother, Hannah, dedicated her to the service of Allah even before her birth, fulfilling a vow. Maryam grew up in the care of Prophet Zakariyyah (Zechariah) and was known for her exceptional piety, devotion, and purity.

The mystery surrounding Maryam is primarily the miraculous birth of Prophet Isa. Allah chose Maryam to give birth to Isa without a father, as a sign of His immense power and a mercy to mankind. An angel, Jibreel (Gabriel), was sent to Maryam to inform her of this divine decree. Despite her surprise as a virgin, she submitted to Allah’s will. Prophet Isa was born miraculously, and Allah enabled him to speak from the cradle to defend his mother’s honour.

Memory Verse

Surah Maryam (19:19): “He said, ‘I am only a messenger of your Lord to give you a pure boy.'”
