  2. Different crops are often chosen for their complementary growth habits (e.g., tall and short, deep-rooted and shallow-rooted).

Types of Intercropping:

  1. Mixed Intercropping: Crops are planted together without any distinct row arrangement (e.g., broadcasting maize and beans together).
  2. Row Intercropping: Crops are planted in alternating rows (e.g., one row of maize, one row of cassava).
  3. Strip Intercropping: Crops are grown in strips wide enough to permit independent cultivation but narrow enough for interaction between crops.
  4. Relay Intercropping: The second crop is planted after the first crop has reached its reproductive stage but before it is harvested.

Advantages:
