Lesson Content

Reasons For Prayer

Prayer is how Christians talk to God. We pray because we love God and want to be close to Him. We also pray when we need His help.

Memory Verse: Pray without ceasing. — 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Bible Readings

  • Matthew 6:9–13
  • Philippians 4:6
  • James 5:13–16
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:17

1. We Pray to Fellowship with God: We pray because we want to be close to God. Just like we talk to our parents every day, we must talk to God every day. When we pray, we spend time with God and learn to hear His voice.

2. We Pray for Good Health: Christians pray to God to keep them healthy. When someone is sick, we pray so God can heal them. The Bible says we should pray for the sick and God will heal them.

3. We Pray for Protection: We ask God to protect us from danger, harm, and evil. Prayer keeps us safe as we go out and come in each day.

4. We Pray for Wealth and Blessings: God gives blessings when we pray and trust Him. We pray for our needs—food, clothes, and all we use. God loves to answer our prayers when we ask in faith.

Other Reasons Why Christians Pray

The following are more reasons why we pray:

  • To thank God for His blessings
  • To ask God for help when we have problems
  • To confess our sins and ask for forgiveness
  • To pray for other people (family, friends, nation)
  • To worship and praise God
