Differentiation

For fast learners, provide proverbs with deeper meanings and ask them to give two acceptable translations and explain which fits better. For pupils who need support, use simpler proverbs, provide word hints, and allow peer support during group work.

Note for teachers using this lesson plan

Use local and familiar ilu/akpaalaokwu to reduce confusion, and insist on meaning-based translation rather than word-for-word translation when necessary. When discussing beliefs, maintain respect for diverse viewpoints and guide pupils to focus on cultural knowledge and good behaviour. For drama, use short extracts and guide pupils to summarise with clear main points in order.
