Importance of Security

Elements That Support Security

Security depends on awareness, confidentiality, authenticity, integrity and timely response. Awareness means noticing risks; confidentiality means protecting private information; authenticity means confirming that a person or message is genuine; and integrity means keeping information or property accurate and unaltered.

For example, a pupil protects security by keeping a password private, checking with a trusted adult before responding to an unfamiliar message, reporting a broken lock and refusing to spread an unverified alarm.
