Lesson Content/Board Summary
CARE OF PERSONAL BELONGINGS: CLEANING, SORTING AND ARRANGING
Our personal belongings are things that belong to us, like our clothes, shoes, and toys. It is important to care for them to keep them nice and clean.
Caring for Our Clothes (Pants and Socks)
We wear pants and socks every day. After wearing them, they can get dirty. We need to:
- Clean Them: Dirty clothes should be washed with soap and water to make them clean. Wearing clean clothes helps us stay healthy and look neat.
- Sort Them: After clothes are clean and dry, we can sort them. Sorting means putting similar things together. For example, put all your pants in one pile and all your socks in another pile.
- Arrange Them: Arranging means putting things away neatly in their proper places. We can fold our pants and socks nicely and put them in a drawer, on a shelf, or in a basket. This makes it easy to find them and keeps our room tidy.
Clean Clothes Song
Tune: “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”
Clean, clean clothes we wear,
Wash them, dry them with great care.
Fold them neatly, put away,
Ready for another day.
Clean, clean clothes, so fresh and bright,
Makes us feel so good and right!
Actions: Line 1: Pat chest, then point to clothes. Line 2: Pretend to wash, then shake hands like drying. Line 3: Pretend to fold, then point to a shelf. Line 4: Nod head. Line 5: Pat chest, then show thumbs up. Line 6: Smile and hug self.

💡 Teacher Guide for Using This Board Summary
How to teach the content: Introduce the topic by asking pupils about their clothes and what happens when they get dirty. Use the chart and posters to illustrate clean vs. dirty clothes and the process of caring for them. Explain each step (cleaning, sorting, arranging) using simple language and real-life examples relevant to the children’s homes.
What to show or demonstrate: Show actual clean pants and socks. Demonstrate how to fold a pant (e.g., fold in half lengthwise, then fold again) and a pair of socks (e.g., lay flat, fold in half, roll or tuck one cuff over the other). Show how to sort them into separate baskets and then arrange them neatly.
How to use the rhyme/song: Introduce the “Clean Clothes Song” after explaining the concepts of cleaning, sorting, and arranging. Sing it together with the pupils, encouraging them to perform the actions. Repeat the song several times to help them remember the words and the message.
How to use the video: Introduce the video as a fun way to see how we can tidy up our things. Play the “Let’s Clean Up Song” video. Encourage pupils to sing along and mimic the tidying actions shown in the video. After watching, discuss what they saw and how it relates to putting away their own belongings.
What to watch for: Observe if pupils understand the difference between clean and dirty, and if they can attempt the simple folding and sorting tasks. Encourage participation from all pupils, providing extra support for those who find the motor skills challenging.

Pupils’ Activity: Pupils greet the teacher, sing along, and respond to questions about their clothes.
Learning Point: Pupils are engaged and recall prior knowledge about clothes and cleanliness.
Step 2: Presentation of Topic
Time: 5 minutes
Teaching Skill: Explanation/Visual Aid
Teacher’s Activity: The teacher introduces the topic: “Care of Personal Belongings: Cleaning, Sorting and Arranging.” The teacher shows pictures of clean and dirty clothes on a chart and asks pupils to identify what they see. The teacher explains that caring for our clothes means keeping them clean, putting similar ones together (sorting), and putting them away neatly (arranging).
Pupils’ Activity: Pupils look at the charts, identify clean and dirty clothes, and listen to the teacher’s explanation.
Learning Point: Pupils understand the topic and the importance of caring for belongings.
Step 3: Demonstration of Cleaning and Folding
Time: 5 minutes
Teaching Skill: Demonstration/Modelling
Teacher’s Activity: The teacher shows a pair of clean pants and socks. The teacher explains that dirty ones need to be washed. Then, the teacher demonstrates a simple way to fold a pant and a pair of socks slowly and clearly, explaining each step (e.g., “fold in half,” “match the ends”).
Pupils’ Activity: Pupils watch the teacher’s demonstration carefully, observing how to fold the clothes.
Learning Point: Pupils observe the correct method for folding personal clothes.
Step 4: Guided Practice (Folding)
Time: 5 minutes
Teaching Skill: Guided Practice/Support
Teacher’s Activity: The teacher distributes clean pants and socks to small groups of pupils. The teacher guides pupils step-by-step to attempt folding their items, offering help and encouragement. The teacher repeats the folding steps as needed.

Learning Point: Pupils develop fine motor skills and practice folding clothes.
Step 5: Reinforcement (Sorting)
Time: 4 minutes
Teaching Skill: Practical Activity/Classification
Teacher’s Activity: The teacher introduces two baskets/boxes. One is labelled “Pants” and the other “Socks.” The teacher demonstrates sorting by placing a folded pant into the “Pants” basket and a pair of folded socks into the “Socks” basket. The teacher then asks pupils to sort their folded items into the correct baskets.
Pupils’ Activity: Pupils sort their folded pants and socks into the appropriate baskets.
Learning Point: Pupils learn to classify and sort items based on type.
Step 6: Application (Arranging and Song)
Time: 4 minutes
Teaching Skill: Application/Creative Expression
Teacher’s Activity: The teacher demonstrates how to arrange the sorted and folded clothes neatly inside a larger box or on a pretend shelf. The teacher then leads pupils in singing the “Clean Clothes Song” with actions, reinforcing the entire process of caring for clothes.
Pupils’ Activity: Pupils observe the arranging, then sing the song with actions, enjoying the activity.
Learning Point: Pupils apply arranging concepts and reinforce learning through song.
Step 7: Evaluation/Review
Time: 4–5 minutes
Teaching Skill: Questioning/Assessment
Teacher’s Activity: The teacher checks pupils’ understanding through short questions and practical tasks.
- Why should we wash our dirty clothes?
- Show me how you would fold this pant.

Lesson Keywords
- Belongings – things that are yours.
- Clean – free from dirt.
- Sort – to put things into groups.
- Arrange – to put things in a neat and tidy way.
Differentiation
- Support: For pupils who struggle with folding, provide larger items or simpler items like a handkerchief to fold first. Use hand-over-hand guidance for folding. For sorting, use only two distinct items (e.g., only pants and socks) and give clear verbal cues.
- Extension: For pupils who grasp the concepts quickly, challenge them to fold a different item of clothing (e.g., a small shirt). Ask them to sort items by colour in addition to type, or to explain in their own words why it is important to arrange their belongings.
