Army Upgrades Facilities at Command Secondary School, Iyana-Ipaja

The Nigerian Army has commissioned several newly upgraded and modernised facilities at Command Secondary School, Iyana-Ipaja, in Lagos as part of ongoing efforts to improve education, security, and staff welfare within the institution.

The commissioning ceremony was led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Babalola, and was attended by senior military officers, education stakeholders, school staff, students, and invited guests.

The newly completed projects were carried out under the leadership of the Acting Commandant of the school, Lieutenant Colonel Oluwafemi Olagbende. The projects include the remodelling of the school entrance gate, installation of a solar power station, renovation of the quarter guard and second gate, upgrade of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre, renovation and furnishing of the staff room, procurement of communication radios, provision of uniforms for security personnel, and several other infrastructural improvements across the school.

Speaking during the event, Major General Babalola praised the Acting Commandant for the significant transformation achieved within a short period since assuming office in January 2026. He noted that the newly upgraded facilities would improve the learning environment, strengthen school security, boost staff morale, and enhance the overall standard of the institution.

The GOC described the solar power project as an important development that would ensure uninterrupted academic and administrative activities, especially in classrooms, laboratories, and the CBT Centre.

He also appreciated the contributions of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), alumni association, school management, and other stakeholders whose support helped make the projects successful.

While addressing students during the ceremony, the GOC encouraged them to remain disciplined, focused on their studies, and make proper use of the facilities provided for their academic growth.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, towards the continuous development of Command schools and the promotion of quality education across Nigeria.

Earlier, the Acting Commandant, Lieutenant Colonel Oluwafemi Olagbende, described the occasion as an important milestone in the school’s development. He thanked Headquarters 81 Division, Headquarters Nigerian Army Engineers, Commander 45 Engineer Brigade, the Director of 81 Division Education Services, the PTA, alumni members, and the school management team for their support in completing the projects.

He also restated his commitment to maintaining a safe, disciplined, and academically competitive learning environment for students.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of a Hybrid Early Warning Detective Security System by the school’s JET Club, cultural performances, inspection of the newly completed facilities, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs.
