The Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, has commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his continued investment in education through the provision of modern learning facilities across the state.
Dr. Udo made the commendation during the commissioning of the newly reconstructed QIC Government Model Primary School in Oku. He described the project as a transformational initiative that will positively impact generations of learners and improve access to quality education in the community.
Established in 1914 by Qua Iboe Church missionaries, the school recently underwent a major reconstruction for the first time in its history. The upgraded facility now features 19 modern classrooms, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities, a sickbay, administrative offices, staff quarters, and other amenities aimed at creating a conducive learning environment.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Udo, who is also an alumnus of the school, expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for prioritizing education and investing in the future of young people across Akwa Ibom State.
He assured residents that the Uyo Local Government Council would ensure the proper maintenance and security of the facility. According to him, dedicated security personnel have already been approved for deployment to the school, while funds have been allocated for the maintenance of the school grounds.
The council chairman also used the occasion to appeal for the establishment of a public secondary school in Oku. He explained that such a facility would complement the newly upgraded primary school and provide pupils with a smooth transition to secondary education within the community.
Representing Governor Umo Eno at the ceremony, the Political Adviser to the Governor, Dr. Godwin Ntukude, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to delivering people-focused projects under the ARISE Agenda. He noted that education remains a key pillar for sustainable development and human capital growth in the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh, described the project as a historic achievement, noting that it represents the first major reconstruction of the school in over 100 years. He added that the improved infrastructure, alongside a favourable teacher-to-pupil ratio, would contribute significantly to better learning outcomes.
Several dignitaries, including education stakeholders, community leaders, government officials, and residents, praised the state government for investing in educational development. They described the reconstructed school as a symbol of progress and a significant step toward improving the quality of basic education in Akwa Ibom State.
For the people of Oku and the wider Uyo Local Government Area, the commissioning of the modern school represents more than a new building. It marks the beginning of a new chapter of academic excellence, opportunity, and hope for future generations.
