2026 Children’s Day: FG Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Education for Every Nigerian Child

The Federal Government of Nigeria has restated its commitment to providing inclusive, equitable, and quality education for every child in the country as Nigeria marked the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.

Speaking at a special event held at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, emphasized that the government remains committed to nurturing, protecting, and empowering children through sustained investments in education and child development programmes.

The celebration featured a special appearance by young disability advocate and actress, Dera Osadebe, whose advocacy for children living with disabilities and autism was widely praised during the event. Her participation highlighted the importance of inclusion and equal opportunities for all children regardless of physical or developmental challenges.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Minister on Media and Communications, Mr. Ikharo Attah, the event brought together children from various schools across the country in a symbolic gathering designed to amplify children’s voices and promote inclusive education nationwide.

The Minister described Children’s Day as a reminder of the nation’s shared responsibility to safeguard the future of children by ensuring they are given the right opportunities to learn and succeed.

He stated that every Nigerian child deserves to be seen, heard, encouraged, and supported, regardless of background or circumstance, adding that education remains the strongest tool for national transformation.

Commending Dera Osadebe, the minister noted that her courage and advocacy continue to inspire important conversations around empathy, inclusion, and equal access to opportunities for children with disabilities.

He further explained that the Children’s Day celebration aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritizes education, youth empowerment, and child development across the country.

The Ministry of Education also reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to strengthening policies and programmes that protect the rights and wellbeing of every Nigerian child, while promoting safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments nationwide.

Children across the country were encouraged to believe in themselves, develop their talents, and contribute positively to society, with assurances that the government will continue to provide opportunities that enable learning and growth.
