A total of 3,625 candidates have taken part in the Science And Technical Schools Placement Examination organised by the Education Resource Centre (ERC) of the FCT Education Secretariat for admission into six science and technical schools across the Federal Capital Territory.
The examination is part of efforts by the FCT Administration to provide qualified students with opportunities to receive specialised education in science and technical fields.
Examination Conducted Across Designated Centres
The placement examination was conducted at selected examination centres across the FCT, with officials from the Education Resource Centre deployed to monitor the process and ensure that the exercise was conducted according to established guidelines.
Speaking while monitoring the examination, the Director of the Education Resource Centre, Dr Neemat Abdulrahim, said the exercise was conducted in an orderly and coordinated manner.
She explained that the Centre had strengthened its examination management and monitoring procedures to provide candidates with suitable examination environments and ensure compliance with established standards.
According to the FCT Education Secretariat’s information office, the measures were designed to improve the efficiency and credibility of the placement examination.
Renovated School Facilities Improve Examination Administration
Abdulrahim also commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for ongoing renovations and improvements in public school facilities across the Territory.
According to her, the renovation of school halls has provided larger and more suitable spaces for examinations, allowing the Education Resource Centre to reduce the number of examination centres compared with previous years.
She explained that examinations had previously been conducted in more than 16 school centres, making monitoring more difficult because officials had to move between several locations.
“With the improvement of school halls, we are now able to utilise fewer centres with appropriate and conducive spaces for candidates. This has made the monitoring exercise more coordinated and efficient,” she said.
The director emphasised that proper planning, coordination and supervision, alongside the commitment of examination officials, school authorities and other stakeholders, are essential to conducting credible examinations.
Parents Urged to Remain Patient
The Education Resource Centre also appealed to parents and guardians who gathered around examination centres to remain patient and security-conscious while waiting for their children and wards.
The appeal was aimed at ensuring that activities around the examination venues remained orderly and did not interfere with the smooth conduct of the exercise.
Candidates Look Forward to Science and Technology Careers
Some of the candidates expressed excitement about participating in the examination, describing admission into the science and technical schools as an important opportunity to build a strong foundation for future careers.
The students said they hoped the specialised schools would prepare them for further studies and careers in fields such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science and Engineering.
Six FCT Schools Offer Placement Opportunities
The six schools involved in the placement examination are:
- Government Science and Technical College, Area 3, Garki
- Government Science Secondary School, Maitama
- Government Science Secondary School, Abaji
- Government Girls Science Secondary School, Kuje
- Government Science and Technical College, Kwali
- Government Science Secondary School, Bwari
The Education Resource Centre reaffirmed its commitment to improving examination administration, monitoring and assessment processes across the FCT.
The Centre said the efforts are aimed at ensuring that placement examinations are conducted in a credible, transparent and efficient manner, giving qualified candidates a fair opportunity to gain admission into specialised science and technical schools.
