The Federal Government has released the 2026/2027 admission list for Federal Unity Colleges across Nigeria, giving candidates who applied for admission into Junior Secondary School One (JSS1) the opportunity to check their placement status.

The announcement was made by the Federal Ministry of Education, which advised parents and guardians to check the admission status of their children and wards and print their admission slips ahead of the next stage of the admission process.

Admission Follows 2026 National Common Entrance Examination

The 2026/2027 admission exercise follows the release of the results of the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE), which serves as the entry examination for admission into JSS1 in Federal Unity Colleges.

The 2026 NCEE recorded 60,357 registered candidates, while 56,950 candidates eventually sat for the examination across Nigeria, the Federal Capital Territory, as well as designated centres in Benin and Togo.

According to the Federal Government, 10 candidates achieved the highest score of 202 marks out of 210, while 82 candidates recorded the lowest score of one mark.

How Federal Unity College Admissions Are Determined

The Federal Ministry of Education said admission into the colleges is based on three approved criteria:

  • 60 per cent merit
  • 30 per cent equality of states
  • 10 per cent exigency

The criteria are designed to ensure that admission opportunities are distributed according to academic performance while also taking geographical representation and other approved considerations into account.

Candidates Asked to Print Admission Slips

Candidates who have been offered admission are expected to print their admission slips and report to the Federal Unity College indicated on their slips.

Parents and guardians should ensure that successful candidates complete the required confirmation, documentation and admission procedures within the stipulated period.

The admission status can be checked through the Federal Ministry of Education’s FME Posting Portal.

Federal Unity College Admission Process Goes Digital

The latest admission exercise is part of the Federal Government’s move to automate the placement process for Federal Unity Colleges.

In 2025, the Ministry of Education announced that admission into the colleges had been fully automated. Under the system, candidates are placed according to the approved capacity of each school.

The government said the automation was introduced to improve transparency, efficiency and capacity management, while also helping to reduce overcrowding in the colleges.

Types of Federal Unity Colleges

The Federal Ministry of Education manages different categories of Federal Unity Colleges across Nigeria. These include:

  • Federal Government Colleges
  • Federal Government Girls’ Colleges
  • Federal Science Colleges
  • Federal Science and Technical Colleges

The colleges provide secondary education to students from different parts of the country and are intended to promote national integration alongside academic development.

Minister Congratulates Successful Candidates

The Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, congratulated candidates who secured admission into the Federal Unity Colleges.

He encouraged the successful students to approach their secondary school education with diligence, discipline and a strong commitment to academic excellence.

Parents and guardians are also advised to check the admission status of their children promptly and ensure that all required documentation and reporting procedures are completed at the assigned colleges.
