Pupils and teachers of Ologbosere Primary School in Bobi, Warri North Local Council of Delta State, now have a safer and more conducive learning environment following the refurbishment of the school by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, and his wife, Her Majesty Olori Atuwatse III.
For years, the school operated under difficult conditions, with leaking roofs, deteriorating buildings and inadequate facilities affecting teaching and learning. The situation changed on Tuesday when the royal couple commissioned a newly refurbished six-classroom block.
The project was carried out through the Royal Iwere Foundation (RIF) as part of efforts to improve educational facilities and support children living in riverine communities.
New Facilities Provided at the School
The intervention goes beyond the renovation of classrooms. The refurbished school now includes several facilities aimed at improving the overall learning environment and welfare of pupils and teachers.
These include:
- A refurbished six-classroom block
- Staff quarters
- New furniture
- Solar-powered electricity
- Access to potable water
- A Love Garden for practical learning
The facilities are expected to provide pupils with a more comfortable environment while helping teachers carry out their responsibilities more effectively.
Royal Foundation Highlights Importance of Education
Speaking during the commissioning, Olori Atuwatse III said the project reflects the commitment of the Warri Kingdom to improving access to quality education, particularly in communities where inadequate infrastructure continues to affect children.
She explained that the refurbishment was intended to be the beginning of similar interventions across riverine communities where pupils face challenges caused by poor educational facilities.
According to her, providing children with appropriate learning environments is essential to giving them a better opportunity to succeed.
Love Garden to Teach Pupils Practical Skills
One of the notable features of the project is the Love Garden, which was created to provide pupils with practical learning experiences.
Olori Atuwatse III explained that the garden is designed to promote food security while teaching children important values such as entrepreneurship, patience and integrity.
Through gardening activities, pupils can learn how food is produced and understand the connection between effort and results. The initiative is also expected to introduce children to practical skills that could be useful beyond the classroom.
Community Ownership Encouraged
The Queen Consort also stressed the importance of community involvement in protecting the newly provided facilities.
She said that involving residents in the project would encourage them to see the school as their own and take responsibility for preserving the infrastructure.
Community ownership, she noted, would help ensure that the facilities remain useful to pupils and teachers for many years.
Community Leaders Welcome the Intervention
A United States-based Itsekiri leader, Chief Frederick Edegbele, commended the royal couple for the intervention and called on corporate organisations to support similar development projects in local communities.
Secretary of Bobi Community, Johnson Boyo, also recalled the difficult conditions under which pupils and teachers previously operated.
He described the refurbished school as a major relief for the community, particularly with the provision of solar power, running water and staff accommodation.
Headmaster Describes Project as Life-Changing
The Headmaster of Ologbosere Primary School, Anthony Omashola, described the intervention as a significant transformation for the school.
According to him, the school had previously made several appeals for government assistance because of its poor condition, but the situation remained largely unresolved until the royal couple intervened.
The new facilities are expected to improve both the learning experience of pupils and the working conditions of teachers.
Royal Couple Donates N3.5 Million to Bobi Community
In addition to the school renovation, the royal couple also provided financial support to the community.
A total of N2 million was donated to the Bobi community, while N1.5 million was given to the youth body.
Residents expressed appreciation for the support, describing the intervention as a significant boost to the community.
The refurbishment of Ologbosere Primary School highlights the importance of investment in basic education infrastructure, particularly in underserved and riverine communities. With better classrooms, electricity, water, furniture and practical learning facilities, pupils in Bobi now have an improved environment in which to learn and develop.
