NNS Delta Donates Books, School Bags to Warri Pupils During 70th Anniversary Outreach

The Nigerian Navy, through Nigerian Navy Ship Delta, has donated educational materials to pupils of Ogiame Primary School as part of activities marking the Navy’s 70th anniversary celebration.

The outreach programme, known as “Educational Rhapsody,” saw the distribution of 1,200 exercise books, 350 school bags, textbooks, white boards, markers, footballs, and school bells to support teaching and learning in the school.

The event, which took place in Warri, also featured career talks, cultural performances, and interactive sessions between naval officers and pupils.

Speaking during the programme, the Commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Shehu Tasiu, encouraged the pupils to remain dedicated to their education and maintain discipline in their daily lives. He stated that the Nigerian Navy is committed not only to protecting the nation’s maritime environment but also to supporting the educational growth of young Nigerians.

According to him, the future of Nigeria depends greatly on the knowledge, values, and opportunities provided to children through quality education. He explained that the Educational Rhapsody initiative was created to encourage academic excellence and motivate pupils to pursue their dreams.

Tasiu described the donated learning materials as a deliberate effort to support the educational aspirations of pupils at Ogiame Primary School. Addressing the children directly, he reminded them that many successful leaders and public officials once sat in classrooms like theirs, urging them to work hard and believe in their future potential.

The naval commander also praised teachers for their commitment to shaping the future of the nation despite various challenges in the education sector.

In her remarks, the Headmistress of Ogiame Primary School, Mrs Toju Aziz, described the outreach as timely and beneficial to the pupils. She noted that career guidance and educational support play an important role in child development and thanked the Nigerian Navy for the initiative.

The programme attracted community leaders, education officials, and representatives of the Warri South Local Government Area. Pupils entertained guests with cultural dance performances, creating a lively atmosphere during the celebration.

Speaking on behalf of the pupils, Banro Laju, a Primary Six pupil, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Navy, saying the donated materials would improve learning and encourage students to perform better academically.

Also speaking at the event, Mrs Augusta Tidi commended the Navy for extending educational support to schools in the area, noting that the gesture would positively impact the children and their education.
