Grace Schools, Gbagada, Lagos, has received the International School Award (ISA) from the British Council for the fourth consecutive time, further highlighting the school’s commitment to international education, cultural understanding and global learning.

The latest award covers a four-year period from 2026 to 2029 and recognises schools that successfully demonstrate the impact of their international education activities.

The International School Award acknowledges institutions that integrate international awareness, global partnerships and intercultural learning into their curriculum and wider school activities.

British Council Commends Grace Schools

Presenting the award, the Deputy Country Director of the British Council Nigeria, Chilufya Besa, praised Grace Schools for maintaining its commitment to international educational standards.

He noted that the theme for the new award cycle, “Connected Classrooms: Global Perspectives in a Digital Age,” reflects the growing need for schools to strengthen their teaching practices and prepare students for an increasingly interconnected world.

The International School Award is implemented in 16 countries and is recognised internationally as an important benchmark for schools demonstrating strong international engagement.

School Highlights Commitment to Global Education

The Executive Director of Grace Schools, Mrs Olatokunbo Edun, said receiving the award for the fourth consecutive time demonstrates the school’s long-term commitment to international education, curriculum development, global partnerships and intercultural understanding.

According to her, participation in the ISA programme helps students develop skills that extend beyond academic achievement.

These skills include effective communication, public speaking, teamwork, collaboration, creativity, performance abilities and global citizenship.

Edun added that the latest accreditation gives the school another opportunity to showcase the impact of its international programmes and strengthen the international dimension of its educational activities.

Students Showcase Chinese New Year Celebration

One of the highlights of the award ceremony was a drama presentation on the Chinese New Year festival by students of Grace Schools.

The presentation provided an opportunity for students to learn about and appreciate a culture outside their immediate environment. It also demonstrated the school’s efforts to expose learners to different traditions and perspectives.

According to the school, such activities support its goal of developing students who are not only academically capable but also culturally aware and prepared to interact confidently in a global environment.

Focus on Digital and Modern Learning

Edun said Grace Schools remains committed to producing well-rounded students who combine strong academic foundations with global awareness.

She explained that the school has continued to adopt modern approaches to teaching and invest in digital learning devices to make education more engaging and effective for students.

These efforts are consistent with the current ISA theme of connected classrooms and the need to prepare young people for opportunities in a rapidly changing digital world.

What the International School Award Means for Students

The British Council’s International School Award encourages schools to develop international partnerships, introduce global issues into classroom learning and create opportunities for students to interact and collaborate with learners from other countries.

For students, these experiences can help develop communication, collaboration, cultural awareness and other skills that are increasingly important in today’s world.

Grace Schools’ fourth consecutive ISA recognition therefore represents more than an award. It reflects the school’s continued efforts to incorporate international perspectives into teaching and learning while preparing students to participate effectively in a global society.

The latest recognition places Grace Schools among Nigerian schools that have demonstrated a sustained commitment to international education and global engagement over an extended period.
