Lagos Teenagers Lead Educational Outreach, Support Hundreds of Public School Pupils

Two Lagos secondary school students are proving that age is not a barrier to making a meaningful difference in society. Through their educational initiative, EduSpark by Tomorrow’s People, teenagers Fareedah Oyolola and Ifeoluwa Onafowokan have successfully provided learning materials and support to hundreds of pupils in public schools across Lagos State.

At a time when discussions about Nigerian youths often focus on unemployment, social media trends, and economic challenges, these young changemakers are demonstrating the positive impact young people can have when they identify problems and take action.

Fareedah and Ifeoluwa, both students of Greensprings Secondary School in Lagos, recently led an educational outreach programme at Expressway Nursery and Primary School I, located in Ketu, Lagos. Working alongside more than 30 volunteers, they donated books, exercise materials, writing tools, and other educational resources to over 400 pupils.

Despite heavy rainfall on the day of the event, the volunteers remained committed to their mission. Educational materials were successfully distributed, bringing excitement and encouragement to many pupils who often have limited access to learning resources.

According to the organisers, the initiative was inspired by their recognition that many children in public schools face challenges in accessing basic educational materials that are readily available to students from more privileged backgrounds.

Fareedah explained that the project evolved from her foundation, Tomorrow’s People, which she established in 2023. Over time, the initiative grew into a collaborative effort involving fellow student leader Ifeoluwa and a network of dedicated volunteers.

The organisers believe that every child deserves access to quality educational resources regardless of their family income or social background. Their goal is to bridge educational gaps by supporting pupils in underserved communities and creating opportunities for academic success.

Before the Ketu outreach, the team had previously organised a similar intervention in the Okobaba community, where more than 300 children benefited from educational support.

Speaking about the importance of teamwork, Ifeoluwa highlighted how collaboration enables young people to achieve greater impact. She noted that partnerships allow individuals to combine ideas, resources, and energy to create lasting change within their communities.

The outreach also received praise from school administrators. School officials described the programme as inspiring, commending the students for their compassion, leadership, and commitment to supporting less privileged children.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the educational materials received. Many pupils were visibly excited as they collected exercise books, pens, and other supplies that will support their learning activities.

Beyond providing school materials, the initiative serves as a powerful example of youth leadership, volunteerism, and social responsibility. It demonstrates that young people can contribute meaningfully to educational development and community transformation.

The success of EduSpark by Tomorrow’s People highlights the growing role of youth-led initiatives in addressing educational challenges across Nigeria.
