The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), bringing relief to thousands of candidates and schools across Nigeria.

According to NECO, a total of 186,291 candidates registered for the examination, which covered 12 subjects. The candidates came from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as five foreign countries.

The examination was conducted between April 20 and April 30, 2026, with the council confirming that the exercise was completed successfully.

NECO stated that the results were approved for release following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting, held at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

During the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Dr. (Mrs.) Folake Olatunji David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa. She expressed satisfaction with the examination process and commended the council for ensuring a smooth conduct and timely release of the results.

The meeting was also attended by members of NECO’s management team alongside selected secondary school principals from different parts of the country.

NECO Fixes July Dates for BECE Resit Examination

To support candidates who did not meet the required standard in key subjects, NECO has scheduled the 2026 BECE resit examination for July 22 and 23, 2026.

The resit will be conducted specifically for Mathematics and English Studies, giving eligible candidates another opportunity to improve their performance.

According to the council, the resit examination is intended for candidates with conditional deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects.

NECO explained that the initiative allows affected candidates to correct their deficiencies and obtain the qualifications required for admission into Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) without having to repeat an entire academic year.

The council encouraged eligible candidates, schools, and parents to make adequate preparations ahead of the resit examination to ensure a successful outcome.
