The Segun Olukitibi Foundation has supported Oyo students in Ibadan, Oyo State, with school bags and writing materials as part of an initiative aimed at improving access to education.

The humanitarian programme was carried out on Friday and brought together students, teachers and parents. According to the foundation, the initiative was designed to help reduce some of the challenges that prevent children from accessing and benefiting fully from education.

The founder and project manager of the foundation, Jesuferanmi Olukitibi, said the organisation believes that ensuring equal educational opportunities requires the involvement of different stakeholders, including families, teachers and the wider community.

She explained that the project was also intended to raise awareness about the importance of education and encourage stakeholders to play a more active role in supporting children’s learning.

“Our expectation is to create greater awareness, empower the different stakeholders involved in a child’s education, and lay the foundation for sustainable impact that can reach more children and communities,” Olukitibi said.

As part of the programme, at least 100 students benefited from the educational empowerment initiative and received school-related materials to support their studies.

The foundation also organised a capacity-building session for 50 teachers, providing an opportunity for educators to strengthen their knowledge and skills.

In addition to supporting students and teachers, the organisation reached out to parents through a market awareness campaign. More than 300 parents were sensitised on the importance of education and the need to ensure that children remain in school.

The initiative highlights the role that non-governmental organisations and community-based interventions can play in complementing government efforts to improve access to quality education.

By providing essential learning materials, supporting teachers and engaging parents, the Segun Olukitibi Foundation is seeking to promote a stronger educational environment for children in Oyo State.
