Gbajabiamila Calls for Stakeholder Support to Strengthen Nigeria’s Education Sector

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has urged education stakeholders, private individuals, and philanthropists to support government efforts aimed at improving Nigeria’s education sector.

He made the appeal during the distribution of educational materials to students from 23 secondary schools in the Surulere area of Lagos State. The initiative was designed to assist students with essential learning resources while easing the financial burden on parents.

Some of the beneficiary schools included Ajigbeda Secondary School, Stadium High School, Surulere Girls High School, Akintan Secondary School, Gbaja Girls Secondary School, and New Era Girls Secondary School.

Thousands of items including textbooks, mathematical sets, school bags, and exercise books were distributed to students during the programme.

Education as the Foundation of National Development

Speaking through Fouad Laguda, who represents Surulere Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives, Gbajabiamila emphasised that education remains the foundation for national growth and sustainable development.

He noted that while government continues to invest in the sector, collaboration with stakeholders and well-meaning individuals is necessary to achieve lasting transformation.

According to him, the intervention was part of ongoing educational support initiatives he began during his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives and continues to sustain in his current role.

Gbajabiamila revealed that the programme has benefited over 8,000 students across Surulere, providing them with learning materials that can support their academic success and reduce the cost burden on families.

He encouraged the students to take advantage of the support by focusing on their studies and striving for excellence in school and public examinations.

Community Leaders Commend the Initiative

The Vice Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Muiz Dosunmu, praised Gbajabiamila for his continued commitment to improving education and supporting young learners in the community.

He described the initiative as an example of leadership and service, noting that many students have benefited from similar interventions over the years.

School administrators also expressed appreciation for the support. The Principal of Stadium High School, Christiana Badejo, said the donation would positively impact students by providing them with essential resources for learning.

Students who benefited from the programme also expressed gratitude. Speaking on behalf of her classmates at Ajigbeda Secondary School, student leader Aisha Jimoh thanked Gbajabiamila for the educational support and promised that the materials would be used to improve academic performance.

The initiative highlights the growing role of partnerships between government, community leaders, and private stakeholders in supporting education and improving learning outcomes for students across Nigeria.
