The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has called on distinguished educators in Ogun Central Senatorial District to intensify efforts in training and retraining teachers, with a stronger focus on technology-driven education and digital literacy.

The appeal was made by the Chairman of Ogun SUBEB, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, during a meeting with members of the Ogun Central Distinguished Educators held at the board’s conference room in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The educators, representing the six local government areas of Ogun Central Senatorial District—Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North, Odeda, Ewekoro, Ifo, and Obafemi-Owode—were selected in recognition of their exceptional performances in both state and national educational competitions.

Digital Skills Essential for Modern Teaching

Speaking during the meeting, Ifede emphasized that technology has become an essential part of modern education and is critical to improving classroom instruction and learning outcomes.

He noted that today’s teachers must embrace digital literacy and technological competence to remain effective in delivering quality education.

According to him, educators who have distinguished themselves through continuous learning should take the lead in mentoring fellow teachers, not only in educational technology but also in leadership, professionalism, and character development.

He also encouraged the group to expand its teacher development initiatives beyond Ogun Central to other senatorial districts, allowing more teachers across the state to benefit from capacity-building programmes.

SUBEB Commends Handwriting Development Initiative

The SUBEB chairman praised the 2025/2026 National Best Teacher, Ambassador Francis Solanke, for organizing a handwriting development training programme for teachers in Abeokuta North Local Government Area.

He described the initiative as a meaningful contribution toward improving teaching quality and strengthening educational standards in public schools.

Board Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Basic Education

Also speaking at the event, SUBEB Permanent Member IV, Rt. Hon. Akeem Balogun, reaffirmed the board’s commitment to ensuring that pupils in public primary schools develop strong literacy and communication skills.

He commended the distinguished educators for mentoring fellow teachers and promoting professional excellence, while assuring them of the board’s continued support for teacher development programmes.

Educators Highlight Training Achievements

Speaking on behalf of the group, the 2024 Ogun State Overall Best Teacher and Chairperson of the Planning Committee, Mrs. Omotayo Akintunde, said the educators are united by a shared vision of improving teachers’ capacity, encouraging innovation, and enhancing the quality of education across Ogun State.

She explained that the initiative supports the education reform agenda of Governor Dapo Abiodun and the leadership of the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu.

Akintunde revealed that the group has successfully trained 88 public primary and secondary school portal administrators in Abeokuta South Local Government Area on the OgunLEARN platform, over 100 administrators in Odeda Local Government Area, and 114 administrators in Ifo Local Government Area.

She appealed to Ogun SUBEB to provide more opportunities for practical teacher training programmes, expressing confidence that sustained professional development would further improve teaching standards and student learning outcomes across the state.

The educators also announced plans to extend their capacity-building initiatives to other parts of Ogun State while continuing to promote innovation, digital competence, and professional excellence among teachers.
