SUBEB Urges Teachers to Boost Pupil Enrolment as Schools Resume Third Term

The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has called on teachers in public primary schools to intensify efforts aimed at increasing pupil enrolment as schools resume for the third term of the 2025/2026 academic session.

The appeal was made during a monitoring exercise conducted across selected schools in Ogun State, where the board observed attendance levels and classroom activities.

The Chairman of SUBEB, Olalekan Ifede, represented by Permanent Member III, Abiodun Ajayi, stressed that sustained enrolment drives are crucial to strengthening basic education and improving learning outcomes across public schools.

He expressed concern over the low turnout of pupils and urged teachers to take proactive steps in engaging parents and guardians to ensure children return to school promptly.

“It is important to intensify the enrolment drive. Teachers must liaise with parents and guardians to ensure that pupils return to the classroom,” he stated.

Ifede also highlighted the importance of strong foundational skills in reading, speaking, and writing, noting that these competencies remain essential for long-term academic success.

While commending teachers for their dedication and professionalism, he encouraged them to translate their efforts into improved academic performance among learners. He further noted that recent progress recorded in schools should be sustained and further improved upon.

Several headteachers also spoke during the monitoring exercise. Among them were Omowunmi Enitan of Yewa South Local Government Nursery and Primary School II, Ilaro, and Fausat Nasir of St. Joseph Nursery and Primary School, Oluwo-Odunjo, Abeokuta North Local Government Area. They appreciated the SUBEB monitoring team for the visit and reaffirmed their commitment to boosting enrolment and enhancing academic outcomes.

Other schools visited included St. Luke’s Primary School, Ibara-Orile; Christ Church Primary School, Imasayi, Yewa North; and Ansar-ud-deen Primary School, Imasayi, Yewa North, among others.
