Ms Powerpoint

Meaning of MS PowerPoint

MS PowerPoint (Microsoft PowerPoint) is a powerful presentation software developed by Microsoft. It is part of the Microsoft Office suite of applications. It allows users to create and deliver dynamic presentations using slides that can contain text, images, charts, audio, video, and animations.

Purpose of MS PowerPoint

The main purposes of MS PowerPoint include:

  1. Creating Visual Presentations: It helps in designing slides to present information in an organised and visually appealing manner.
  2. Communicating Ideas: It is used to convey ideas, concepts, and data to an audience effectively through a sequence of slides.
  3. Educational Tool: Teachers use it to deliver lessons, and students use it for project presentations and assignments.
  4. Business and Corporate Use: It is widely used in businesses for sales pitches, marketing presentations, training sessions, and reporting.
  5. Entertaining Audiences: With its multimedia capabilities, it can be used to create engaging and interactive content for various events.

User Interface of MS PowerPoint

The user interface of MS PowerPoint consists of several key components that help users create and manage presentations. These include:

  1. Ribbon: This is the main command centre at the top, containing tabs (e.g., Home, Insert, Design, Animations, Slide Show) with groups of related commands.
  2. File Tab (Backstage View): Clicking the “File” tab opens a backstage view where you can save, open, print, share, and manage your presentations.
  3. Quick Access Toolbar: Located above the Ribbon, it provides quick access to frequently used commands like Save, Undo, and Redo.
  4. Slide Pane: The large central area where you create and edit the content of individual slides.
  5. Slides/Outline Pane: On the left side, it displays thumbnails of all slides in the presentation (Slides tab) or an outline of the text content (Outline tab).
  6. Notes Pane: Located below the Slide Pane, it allows you to add speaker notes for each slide, which are visible only to the presenter.
  7. Status Bar: At the bottom of the window, it displays information about the current slide, such as slide number, view options, and zoom level.

Creating a PowerPoint Document

To create a new PowerPoint presentation:

  1. Open MS PowerPoint.
  2. Click on the “File” tab, then select “New”.

Teacher Guide for Using This Lesson Plan

Before the lesson, ensure all computers or tablets are set up with MS PowerPoint and are in working condition. If possible, have a projector or smart screen ready to demonstrate the interface and steps clearly. Begin by engaging students with questions about presentations to connect with their prior experiences. When explaining the user interface, point out each component on the projected screen and allow students ample time to explore it on their devices in groups, as specified in the activity. Guide students through creating and editing documents slowly, providing clear, concise instructions and observing their progress. Encourage questions and provide immediate feedback. During note-taking, ensure students accurately copy the Board Summary. Check for understanding throughout the lesson by asking questions and observing practical application. For weaker learners, focus on the core concepts of defining PowerPoint and performing basic creation/editing. For faster learners, encourage exploration of more advanced features. Emphasise the practical application of PowerPoint in their daily lives and future studies.
