Nigerian National Anthem: First Stanza
The first stanza of the Nigerian national anthem teaches us about loving our country. It reminds us to be united, faithful, and loyal to Nigeria.
The First Stanza of the National Anthem
The first stanza of the anthem is made of strong and meaningful words. These include:
Arise, O compatriots, Nigeria’s call obey
To serve our fatherland, With love and strength and faith
The labor of our heroes past, shall never be in vain
To serve with heart and might, One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity
Meaning of Some Words in the Anthem
Some words in the anthem might potentially be new or hard to understand.The following are their meanings:
- Compatriots means fellow citizens
- Obey means to follow a command
- Fatherland means your country
- Labour means hard work
- Heroes means great people who fought for Nigeria
- Vain means useless
- Bound means joined together
- Unity means being together as one
