Lesson Content/Board Summary

RELATIONSHIP IN THE FAMILY

Meaning of the Family

A family is a group of people related by blood, marriage, or adoption, living together and sharing common values and responsibilities. It is the basic unit of society.

Types of Family

There are mainly two types of family structures:

  • Nuclear Family: This consists of a father, mother, and their children living together in one household. It is also known as a conjugal family.
  • Extended Family: This consists of a nuclear family plus other relatives such as grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins, living together or in close proximity and maintaining strong ties.

Memory Verse

Ephesians 6:1: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”

Bible Reading

  • Ephesians 6:1-4
  • Colossians 3:18-21
  • Proverbs 22:6

Family Relationships

A family relationship is the connection among people who belong to a family through birth, marriage, adoption or accepted care. This develops the earlier Primary 4 introduction to family relationships. Healthy relationships involve love, respect, communication, cooperation, protection and appropriate responsibility.

Family members may disagree, but conflict should be handled without violence, humiliation or secrecy around harm. Roles can be shared according to age, ability and family circumstances; no role makes abuse acceptable.
