Registration is now officially open for the Imo State preliminary round of the 17th Spelling Leaders Competition, with Eternal Word Christian School International set to host the event in Owerri.

Schools across Imo State are being invited to participate in the highly anticipated competition, which aims to promote spelling excellence, language confidence, and academic growth among children and teenagers.

The preliminary round will take place on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, at Eternal Word Christian School International, Umudibia Nekede, Owerri. The competition is organised under the Spelling Leaders initiative powered by Spell Africa International, a programme focused on nurturing literacy skills and identifying young spelling talents nationwide.

According to the organisers, participating schools are expected to register a minimum of 10 spellers, while eligible pupils must fall within the 6–17 years age bracket. Early registration is strongly encouraged to allow adequate preparation ahead of the competition day.

The Spelling Leaders Competition provides pupils with an opportunity to showcase their spelling and language abilities while also opening doors to wider learning exposure and scholarship opportunities.
