Student Wins Spelling Bee Competition, Becomes One-Day School Proprietor

A student of My Dream School, Precious Ochulor, has emerged as the winner of the school’s Spelling Bee Competition, earning a scholarship award, an all-expense-paid trip to Abuja, and the opportunity to serve as the school’s “One-Day Proprietor.”

The competition, organised for students in both junior and senior secondary classes, attracted about 150 participants who competed through several elimination stages before the final round.

After an intense contest, five students advanced to the grand finale. They included Kosiso Aguzie (JS1), Kingfinney Umeh (JS2), Henry Abah (JS3), Semilore Fashoro (SS1), and Precious Ochulor (SS2).

At the end of the competition, Ochulor secured the first position, while Semilore Fashoro finished as the first runner-up and Kingfinney Umeh emerged as the second runner-up.

A teacher at the school explained that the Spelling Bee Competition was organised to encourage academic excellence, improve students’ public speaking abilities, and build confidence among learners.

Speaking during the event, the school proprietor, Mr. Isaac Success Omoyele, stated that the competition was designed to go beyond simple memorization. According to him, participants were also required to explain the meanings of words and use them correctly in sentences.

He added that exposing students to such intellectual challenges helps improve critical thinking skills and promotes deeper learning among students.

Reacting to her victory, Precious Ochulor expressed gratitude and described the achievement as the result of hard work, determination, and long hours of study. She noted that the success has motivated her to aim for even greater accomplishments in the future.

One of the parents, Mrs. Rose Aguzie, praised the school for positively impacting her daughter’s academic development. She expressed happiness that her child made it to the final stage of the competition.

The first runner-up, Semilore Fashoro, also shared her thoughts after the event, stating that although she had hoped to win, the experience has encouraged her to prepare better for future competitions.

The competition reflects the growing importance schools are placing on literacy development, communication skills, and academic excellence among students.
