Life Cycles and Mode of Transmission of Animal Parasites

Parasites have various life cycles which determine how they spread:

  1. Direct Life Cycle: The parasite completes its entire life cycle in a single host and is transmitted directly from one host to another (e.g., through faeces, direct contact).
  2. Indirect Life Cycle: The parasite requires one or more intermediate hosts to complete its life cycle before infecting the definitive host.

Modes of transmission include:

  1. Direct Contact: Physical contact between infected and uninfected animals.
  2. Ingestion: Consuming contaminated feed, water, or pasture with parasite eggs or larvae.
