Viral Diseases
- Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD)
Symptoms: Blisters and sores on the tongue, lips, gums, nostrils, teats, and between the hooves; lameness; excessive salivation; fever; loss of appetite.
Effects: Severe weight loss; reduced milk production; abortion in pregnant animals; high mortality in young animals.
Mode of Transmission: Direct contact with infected animals; contaminated feed, water, equipment, vehicles, and clothing; airborne spread over short distances. - Rinderpest (Cattle Plague)
Symptoms: High fever; loss of appetite; discharge from eyes and nose; erosions and ulcers in the mouth and digestive tract; severe diarrhea (often bloody); dehydration.
Effects: Rapid and severe dehydration; high mortality rate (up to 100%); significant economic losses.
Mode of Transmission: Direct contact with infected animals; contaminated body secretions and excretions (saliva, nasal discharge, feces, urine). - Newcastle Disease
Symptoms: Respiratory signs (gasping, coughing, sneezing); nervous signs (tremors, paralysis, twisted neck); digestive signs (diarrhea); reduced egg production; sudden death.
Effects: High mortality in poultry flocks; severe economic losses in the poultry industry; reduced meat and egg yield.

Bacterial Diseases
- Anthrax
Symptoms: Sudden death (often without prior signs); rapid decomposition; blood oozing from natural orifices (nose, mouth, anus); fever; difficulty breathing; swelling in the throat and neck.
Effects: High mortality; poses a zoonotic risk (can infect humans); rapid spread in susceptible populations.
Mode of Transmission: Ingestion of spores from contaminated soil, feed, or water; inhalation of spores; contact with infected animal products or carcasses. - Brucellosis (Contagious Abortion)
Symptoms: Abortion (especially in the last trimester of pregnancy); retained placenta; reduced fertility; orchitis (inflammation of testicles) in males; lameness.
Effects: Significant reproductive losses; reduced milk production; poses a zoonotic risk to humans (undulant fever).
