  2. Offset Dish: The LNB in an offset dish is positioned off-centre, below the main parabolic reflector. This design allows for a smaller dish size and prevents the LNB from blocking the incoming signal, leading to higher efficiency. They are commonly used for Ku-band reception, such as for DStv or Free-to-Air channels.
  3. Flat Plate Antenna: These are compact, rectangular antennas that do not have the traditional parabolic shape. They use an array of small antenna elements to receive signals. They are aesthetically pleasing and are often used in mobile applications or where space is limited, though they may be less efficient than parabolic dishes for very weak signals.

Low Noise Block (LNB) Converters

An LNB (Low Noise Block) converter is a device mounted on the feed arm of a satellite dish that collects the radio waves from the dish. It amplifies the weak satellite signal and converts it to a lower frequency (intermediate frequency, IF) that can be transmitted through a coaxial cable to the satellite receiver indoors.

Types of LNBs include:

  1. Single LNB: This LNB has one output and can feed signal to only one satellite receiver or tuner. It is suitable for a single TV point.
  2. Twin LNB: A Twin LNB has two independent outputs, allowing it to feed two separate satellite receivers or two tuners within a single PVR (Personal Video Recorder) decoder.
  3. Quad LNB: This LNB provides four independent outputs, suitable for connecting up to four satellite receivers or four tuners.
  4. Octo LNB: An Octo LNB has eight independent outputs, capable of feeding up to eight satellite receivers.
  5. Universal LNB: This is the most common type of LNB used for Ku-band reception. It can receive signals across a wide frequency range (typically 10.7 GHz to 12.75 GHz) and convert them to an IF range (typically 950 MHz to 2150 MHz). It is compatible with most modern satellite receivers.
  6. Monoblock LNB: A Monoblock LNB is a single unit that combines two or more LNBs with a built-in DiSEqC switch. It is designed to receive signals from two or more satellites that are close together in orbit (e.g., 6 degrees apart) using a single dish, providing multiple outputs for different receivers.
